Biggest Blocker to Our Growth

In 2006 when I started my coaching and training business, for the first few years I often found myself experiencing impostor syndrome. This is when the way we see ourselves hasn’t yet caught up with the reality of what we are doing. In other words, we haven’t caught up with who we are becoming.

What is useful to remember is that real impostors do not experience impostor syndrome. If we are not impostors when experiencing this syndrome then what are we experiencing? Growth. Impostor syndrome is an indicator that we are growing. We are breathing life into a new identity of which we are not yet familiar with.

In 2006, I suddenly had no boss, no meetings, no obligations to an employer. At times I was staring into an abyss, not knowing where the next $500 was going to come from. When I would press forward into my new role of coach, I felt that I was only one question away from being found out.

If we allow this feeling of being found out or impostor syndrome to dominate the landscape of our mind, we make it incredibly difficult to progress in our development.

The psychological solution to this is simple. To see it as a growth indicator.  To take it a step further, if we do not experience impostor syndrome, we are not stretching our comfort zone enough in order to become the next version of ourselves we need to become to handle the next level of whatever life brings.

Remember, real impostors do not experience this syndrome. If you want to grow, then welcome this impostor syndrome on board for the ride.

Thank you,

Love

Joe.
