How To Make Your Mind Stronger Than Your Emotions When the Going Gets Tough

We all experience the ebbs and flows, the downs and ups, the hard and the easy of life. It is a natural, normal and healthy part of what gives life, our experiences and our work such vibrancy. A surfer cannot be on the wave 100% of the time he or she is out there. There are many ebbs (waiting for the wave) and flows (catching the wave).

Business, life and all good things follow the same pattern. It matters immensely that our mind be stronger than our emotions when things get tough. When our mind is stronger, we can focus with more power and intent. If our emotions are stronger, we become highly reactionary and potentially irrational in how we navigate any difficulty or crisis. 

Life is what we focus on. Our focusing instrument is our mind. Nothing in our conscious everyday experiences can be experienced outside of our mind. We can train our mind to become stronger than our emotions when we train ourselves to focus on specific things.

When in the ebb of the ebb and flow consider these focus points:

  •         Focus on what you can control rather than what you cannot.
  •         Focus on what you have rather than what is missing.
  •         Focus on others rather than just self.
  •         Focus on the present/future rather than the past.
