The Most Crucial Gift We Can Give Ourselves For 2026
Christmas this year has felt like it has arrived 2-3 months too soon! But here we are facing the dawn of a new year once again.
Let’s dive straight into, what I believe to be, not only the most crucial gift we can give ourselves for 2026, but the most crucial gift for our life. I love these wise words from Elizabeth Kubler Ross, famous for her book “On Death and Dying”, she said;
“How do geese know when to fly to the sun? Who tells them the seasons? How do we humans know when it is time to move on? As with the migration of birds, so surely within us, there is a voice within, if only we would listen to it, that tells us certainly when to go forth into the unknown.”
The unknown, a place where we have an opportunity to meet aspects of ourselves, we didn’t know existed. The unknown is where we expand and grow so we can meet what life needs us to become. We all have within us what I call an emotional compass, designed to inspire us toward the new, the unfamiliar, and the uncomfortable. All designed to meet life’s demands. The demand of becoming more loving, caring and nurturing of all around us.
Our emotional compass prods us, whether through a whisper, an intuitive hit or a voice within to move toward the unknown. Whether that be in the form of learning a new skill, a way to expand our businesses, move to a new country or town, leave that relationship, or commit even more to that relationship.
The ultimate gift of the unknown is the gift of self-trust. We can only learn self-trust by looking within and in the silence listen to that voice guiding us. That voice is not a literal voice giving us instruction. This inner voice communicates through feeling. It guides us on what feels wrong, or what feels right. Often what feels right to the soul the ego thinks is completely wrong.
I have made many decisions in my life guided by this inner feeling. If I had allowed my ego (logic, head) to take over I would have remained frozen in fear and today wouldn’t even be half the man I am today.
Marston, who created the whole DISC nomenclature, once said “what you do today can improve all your tomorrows.”
You want to change something for 2026? Embrace self trust and do today what will positively impact all your tomorrows.
Thank you for reading, my best wishes for 2026,
Love
Joe
